Child and Family Therapy
Individual therapy, play therapy, and family counseling are particularly effective with ADHD children and children of divorce. You as a parent might also turn to a child therapist for help with anxiety and depression, life stage or developmental challenges, or family mental health issues.
The signs you might be seeing in your child include
- Loss of interest in favorite activities, poor appetite, trouble at school, and problems sleeping.
- Low self-esteem, impulsivity, conflict with peers, and a tendency to lash out at others.
- Withdrawal or isolation, a refusal to listen to adults, and efforts to play parents off against each other.
- Suddenly babyish behavior or nervous habits that interfere with school and social life.
- Problems dealing with transitions or major changesthe start of first grade or college, for instance.
- Bad behavior in response to family mental health issuesa death or other significant event or sudden changes in the stressors on all family members.
These are just a few possibilities. Whatever the issues, you want your child to be happy, productive, and responsible. Your children’s mental health is a vital part of how you see your success as parent captain (or co-captain) of the family ship.
When you and I sit down together, you will teach me about your child, your family, and your concerns. We will decide how best to start your child in therapy, where to focus our attention, how to use play therapy and other strategies, and how best to combine individual and family counseling sessions.
An experienced child therapist can offer your child not just a path to greater success at home and at school but also an opportunity for exploration, self-discovery, sharing, and fun learning. Therapy for your child offers you support, appreciation, and resources. You and I will meet as often as necessary to reassess the treatment plan and the progress we are making on your goals.
