About Marcia E. Brubeck
Marcia E. Brubeck, JD, MSW, LCSW, is a graduate of the University of Connecticut Schools of Law and Social Work. In addition to being a member of the Connecticut bar and a licensed clinical social worker, I am a diplomate of clinical forensic counseling, a certified school social worker, a parent assistor, and a social work field instructor.
I belong to the National Association of Social Workers, the Clinical Social Work Association, the American College of Certified Forensic Counselors, the American Association for Group Psychotherapy, the Connecticut Audubon Society, and the Connecticut chapters of the Learning Disabilities Association and the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI).
Prior to opening my full-time private practice in 2000, I provided individual, group, and family therapy in inpatient and partial hospital settings and in extended day treatment programs for children. As a practicing psychotherapist and advocate, I have seen hundreds of children, adults, and families.
Before becoming a social worker, I edited scholarly books in the humanities and social sciences, including psychology. Although I am a member of the Connecticut bar, I have never practiced law.
In my spare time, I like to identify wildflowers and watch birds with my cat, Charlie W. Brown. I also enjoy taking long walks, learning about antiques, seeing art films, gardening, baking bread, and writing popular fiction and nonfiction as well as book reviews and professional articles. My community access television program, produced in West Hartford, is called Great Kids, Great Families.
